White Sox Make Roster Changes, Promote Rikuu Nishida

The Chicago White Sox have made a significant roster change by designating outfielder Jarred Kelenic for assignment. This decision clears the way for the promotion of Rikuu Nishida, a promising Japanese infielder/outfielder, from Triple-A Charlotte.

Kelenic, at 26 years old, joined the White Sox for the first time this season, hitting .226 with one home run and four RBIs in 19 games. His career began as a first-round pick by the New York Mets in 2018, and he has since played for the Seattle Mariners, Atlanta Braves, and now the White Sox, accumulating a .211 batting average with 50 home runs and 160 RBIs over 426 games.

Nishida, 25, has shown impressive performance at Charlotte, batting .347 with one home run, 10 RBIs, and nine steals in 33 games this season. He started the year at Double-A Birmingham, quickly earning his promotion due to his outstanding play.

Upon making his major league debut, Nishida will become the fifth Japanese-born player to don the White Sox uniform, joining the ranks of Munetaka Murakami, Kosuke Fukudome, Tadahito Iguchi, and Shingo Takatsu.
