In Chicago’s Near West Side, five police officers were injured early Sunday morning when a car struck them while they were responding to a large gathering of teenagers. The incident occurred around 3:20 a.m. near the intersection of West Roosevelt Road and South Loomis Street, where officers were attempting to disperse a crowd that had gathered for a late-night prom celebration.

The vehicle, a blue car, collided with the officers before coming to a halt after hitting a fence, pole, and a police car. The injured officers are currently in fair condition, according to police reports.

An 18-year-old man was taken into custody following the incident, and a weapon was recovered from his vehicle. As of Monday afternoon, no charges have been announced. In a related incident, a 19-year-old man was shot in the leg nearby shortly after the officers were struck, though it is unclear if the shooting is connected to the gathering.
