West U city officials have unanimously approved the purchase of three additional body-worn cameras, five tasers, and two dash cameras for a total contract of $52,000. The contract with Axon, a technology company that supplies law enforcement and security agencies with public safety equipment, will consolidate the city’s existing four contracts into one.
Background
According to Chief Gary Ratliff, the city has had multiple contracts for body-worn cameras, dash cams, and tasers in the past. In 2020, the city purchased 27 body-worn cameras, 24 tasers, and eight fleet dash cameras that were spread across four different contracts. The new contract will go into effect in November 2026 and will run through November 2031.
