Volkswagen, a German auto group, is planning to introduce a new pickup truck in the US market as part of its strategy overhaul.
New Management and Product Offering
The company source revealed that Marco Schubert, previously head of sales at Audi, will replace Kjell Gruner as the new head of Volkswagen in the US. Thomas Schaefer, head of the Volkswagen brand, sees growth opportunities in pickup trucks and large SUVs, which the company does not currently offer in the US.
The goal is to bring the first pickup truck to market before the end of the decade, with production taking place in the US. Volkswagen operates a plant in Chattanooga, Tennessee, where production of the electric ID.4 was recently discontinued ahead of schedule.
