Vixen’s Roxy Petrucci Reflects on Band’s Legacy and Future

Vixen, the iconic all-female rock band from Minnesota, is set to perform in St. Petersburg, Florida, with founding drummer Roxy Petrucci leading the charge. Known for their hits like “Cryin'” and “Edge of a Broken Heart,” Vixen made waves in the late 1980s and early ’90s, earning a spot on Rolling Stone’s list of “50 Greatest Hair Metal Albums of All Time.”

Vixen’s Journey and Legacy

Petrucci, the sole original member in the current lineup, embraces the label of a “legacy band.” She reflects on the band’s journey, stating, “If you love the music and you want to come see us play, come see us play. Because you’re going to see a great band with some killer songs that really stand the test of time today.”

Vixen’s original lineup, fronted by the late Jan Kuehnemund, faced challenges in being taken seriously in a male-dominated industry. Inspired by bands like Led Zeppelin and Aerosmith, Vixen was determined to prove their musical prowess. Despite being seen as a novelty, they secured a deal with EMI Manhattan Records and toured with rock legends such as Aerosmith and Ozzy Osbourne.

Current Lineup and Performance

The 2026 edition of Vixen includes guitarist Britt Lightning, vocalist Rosa Laricchiuta, and bassist Julia Lage. Petrucci praises the new members for bringing fresh energy to the band, stating, “They bring new energy and it kicks me in the ass. I have to be on top of my game.”

Vixen will open for Quiet Riot at Ferg’s in downtown St. Petersburg, offering fans a chance to experience their timeless music live. Petrucci, who also has a background as a classically-trained clarinetist, continues to balance her musical talents with her rock persona.

As Vixen continues to tour and perform, they remain a testament to the enduring appeal of rock music and the power of female musicianship.
