A large ‘8647’ has been etched into the grass on the National Mall, sparking an investigation by the U.S. Park Police. The numbers, which are often used to signal opposition to President Donald Trump, appeared as dead grass along a large portion of the Mall, east of the World War II Memorial.

The cause of the discoloration of the grass has not been determined, and samples have been collected for testing. The Secret Service and FBI are also involved in the investigation, which is being led by the U.S. Park Police.

The Department of Interior, which manages the National Mall, has described the markings as ‘deranged vandalism’ that ‘will not be tolerated.’ Any threat against the President is taken very seriously by the Department, and those responsible will be held accountable.

The numbers ‘8647’ have been used to signal opposition to Trump, with ’86’ often used as a code in the restaurant industry to get rid of or remove an order or patron, and ’47’ referencing Trump as the 47th President.
