Wisconsin men’s track and field sophomore Matan Ivri took fourth in his semifinal of the 1500 meters to automatically advance to the final at the 2026 NCAA Outdoor Championships on Wednesday at Hayward Field.
Ivri finished in 3 minutes, 39.39 seconds to take fourth and advance to Friday’s national championship race. “Every race in the 1500 meters at the NCAA championships has been the best race I’ve ever had against the strongest fields I’ve competed in,” Ivri said. “I’m grateful to keep surprising myself and others.”
Onwunili Concludes Season
Fellow sophomore Joshua Onwunili concluded his season at the national championships as the sprinter took 14th in the 100 meters to earn second-team All-America honors. Onwunili clocked in at 10.19, a personal-best time and the No. 4 time in program history.
The Accra, Ghana native finished his first year in Madison with top-10 marks in the 100 meters (10.19) and ran the fastest all-conditions time in the 200 meters (20.46). “I’m happy with my season,” Onwunili said. “Didn’t get into the final, but I’m not upset about it because I had a way better season than I thought I would. I made a lot of improvements in all areas. Coach (Kareem) Jackson, really works some magic and I’m very thankful to him and everybody that helped me get here.”
