University of Wyoming running back Samuel ‘Tote’ Harris was recently named to the watch list for the 90th Maxwell Award, given to the most outstanding overall player in college football.

Accomplishments

Harris enters the upcoming season as a preseason All-Mountain West selection by both Phil Steele and Athlon Sports. Last season, he led the Cowboys in rushing, finishing with 558 rushing yards on 100 carries and averaging 5.6 yards per attempt.

His performance last season was highlighted by a career-high 126 rushing yards against Colorado and a 102-yard performance on just 12 carries against Fresno State. Harris also proved to be a threat in the passing game, racking up 184 receiving yards on 16 catches, including a 52-yard reception against San Jose State.

The Maxwell Award watch list includes a wide array of talent from FBS programs across the country. The 2025 winner was former Indiana University quarterback Fernando Mendoza, who was subsequently selected as the first overall pick in the NFL draft by the Las Vegas Raiders.

The selection process for the 90th iteration of the prestigious award will continue throughout the fall, with semifinalists scheduled to be announced Nov. 10. Three finalists will then be unveiled Nov. 24, before the winner is announced on Dec. 10, as part of the ESPN Home Depot College Football Awards Show.
