An Urbandale plastic surgeon and his practice are accused of defrauding Medicare of more than $2 million, according to a federal lawsuit.
Allegations of False Invoices
The lawsuit alleges that Dr. Eugene Cherny, of Heartland Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery, submitted false invoices with inflated prices for skin substitute products between January 2021 and December 2022. It also claims that Cherny became one of the most prolific billers for these products in the country, ranking as the highest-paid Medicare Part B provider in 2021.
KCCI reached out to Cherny at his office for a response to the lawsuit but has not received a reply.
