UNT launches College of AI and Advanced Analytics with $20 million donation

Denton, Texas – The University of North Texas (UNT) unveiled a new College of Artificial Intelligence and Advanced Analytics, made possible by a transformational $20 million donation from alumni Anuradha and Vikas Sinha. The gift will establish six permanent endowments to fund student scholarships, endowed professorships, college leadership, entrepreneurship initiatives, advanced research, and emerging‑technology programs.

College structure and focus areas

The Sinha College will be organized into two academic divisions: Applied Intelligence and Informatics, and Information and Learning Applications. It will also house the Applied Artificial Intelligence and Data Science Institute, a hub designed to deepen industry partnerships and foster cross‑campus research.

According to UNT President Harrison Keller, the new college aligns with the university’s “Look North: UNT 2030” strategic plan, which aims to adapt higher education to a rapidly changing labor market and accelerate interdisciplinary innovation.

Donor background and vision

Vikas Sinha, vice president of the Mainframe Software Division at Broadcom and a 2023 UNT doctoral graduate, said, “Artificial intelligence will be one of the defining technologies of our generation, and universities have an essential role to play in preparing the people who will shape its future. This gift is about paying that opportunity forward and recognizing that immigrants don’t simply participate in the American dream – they help build it.” The Sinhas, who immigrated to the United States from India, have previously supported UNT’s Department of Data Science in 2024 and the Sinha Innovation Lab for Data Science in 2025.

Impact on students and the region

Students will benefit from new scholarship opportunities and access to faculty leaders in fields such as intelligent systems, data analytics, cybersecurity, health informatics, and learning technologies. The college’s emphasis on applied research is expected to attract high‑tech employers to the Denton area, creating jobs and reinforcing the region’s reputation as a hub for technology and innovation.

UNT plans a campus celebration later this year to honor the naming of the new college and to recognize the Sinhas’ generosity.

Community response

Local leaders and business groups have praised the investment, noting that a dedicated AI college strengthens the talent pipeline for Texas’ growing tech sector. The initiative also underscores the importance of immigrant contributions to American entrepreneurship and higher education.
