A Ukrainian woman who disguised herself as a man is the main suspect in a bomb attack that wounded a Ukrainian tycoon and two others in Monaco, according to local authorities.
Investigation Details
The suspect, identified as 39-year-old Anastasiia Berezovska, was last known to reside in Germany and has a tattoo of a snake on her right arm. After the attack, she fled to neighboring France and then drove to Italy in a rented German-registered car.
The bomb used in the attack was sophisticated, indicating that more than one perpetrator was involved, prosecutors said. Two men were arrested in Monaco but were later released due to lack of evidence.
The attack occurred in the entranceway of one of Monaco’s fanciest apartment buildings, targeting Ukrainian-born businessman Vadym Yermolaiev. A woman and a child were also injured in the blast.
Security Concerns
The attack has shaken the city-state of Monaco, which is known for its high level of security. The city has 556 police officers and 1,387 CCTV cameras monitoring the area, making it an unusual location for such a violent incident.
Security cameras filmed the suspect scouting the area several times before the attack, wearing the same masculine disguise. On one occasion, a woman followed the same route, leading prosecutors to believe it may have been the same individual who planted the bomb.
