The 250th Salute to Independence Parade in Philadelphia has been canceled due to extreme heat. Temperatures are expected to exceed 100 degrees and feel even hotter due to humidity as the region enters Day 5 of a heat wave.
On Thursday, July 2, the city tied its record high temperature of 103 degrees. The Pride of Prattville High School Marching Band was one of the participants in this year’s parade, helping celebrate our nation’s 250th anniversary.
Band Director Chris King announced the organizers’ decision, saying while they are heartbroken and devastated, they are grateful for the support that the River Region has shown. The high school band was the only one chosen from the state of Alabama to march in the 250th Salute to Independence Parade.
