Ukrainian officials said Russian attacks killed four civilians across the country on Saturday, underscoring the growing intensity of the aerial war between Moscow and Kyiv.
Russian strikes hit residential areas
President Volodymyr Zelenskyy warned that Russia is escalating its attacks daily and called for stronger international responses to prevent further spread of the conflict. He cited “numerous strikes on residential homes” in Kyiv, Zaporizhzhia, Odesa, Sumy and Kharkiv regions.
In Zaporizhzhia, two women died when their home collapsed under the rubble, according to the regional military administration. A separate Russian strike on the city of Sumy also claimed two lives.
Ukrainian retaliation targets Russian infrastructure
Ukraine’s long‑range drones have turned their attention to Russian oil refineries and industrial sites. A Ukrainian drone strike in Russia’s southern Krasnodar region killed three people and wounded two, regional governor Veniamin Kondratyev reported via Telegram. He said the attack sparked fires at two industrial facilities, though details remain limited.
Russian media later confirmed that a local oil refinery was among the targets.
Continued attacks on Ukrainian territory
In the Kyiv region, a Russian drone caused a fire at a warehouse in the Boryspil district, injuring two people. Drones also struck several districts of Kyiv itself, injuring four and damaging residential and office buildings.
The Russian Ministry of Defense said a recent strike on Kyiv damaged a data centre that supports both cellular internet services and Starlink satellite communications.
Calls for stronger sanctions
Earlier this week, President Zelenskyy appealed to the United Nations for tougher sanctions and trade bans to cut off revenue streams that fund Moscow’s war effort. Despite extensive diplomatic efforts, a decisive breakthrough to end the conflict remains elusive.
The war, now more than four and a half years old, continues to exact a heavy toll on civilians on both sides of the front.
