The University of Central Florida is seeking $119 million in Tourist Development Tax funding for a series of improvements to its athletics facilities. The proposal, presented during the third meeting of the Orange County Tourist Development Tax Citizen Advisory Task Force, focuses on three major investments.
Athletics Facilities Upgrades
The largest request — $51.1 million — would fund broadcast infrastructure upgrades designed to attract more televised games and national sporting events while showcasing the university’s facilities, according to UCF President Alexander Cartwright. The investment would improve the fan experience while increasing the university’s national visibility.
UCF is also seeking $43.6 million to expand its ability to host championship-level soccer and track events. The proposal includes construction of a soccer-specific stadium and a separate track and field complex. Additionally, the university is requesting $24.3 million to improve and expand seating at the UCF softball complex, allowing it to host additional events.
Cartwright stated that the three projects support the same overall goal of making UCF a stronger destination for sports tourism. The advisory task force took no action on the proposal.
