More than 1.7 million attic stairway ladders sold nationwide are being recalled due to a fall hazard that could lead to serious injury or death. The recall was issued by Louisville Ladder, the manufacturer of the affected ladders, after reports of bolts breaking while in use.

The recalled ladders include Louisville, Featherlite, Lite & Century attic stairway ladders with gas struts only. The ladders were sold by various retailers, including Home Depot, Lowe’s, and Amazon, from November 2012 through July 2026. Consumers who own one of the recalled ladders should stop using it immediately and register to receive a free repair kit.
The recall affects ladders with aluminum or wood frames, which come with handrails and fold into the attic. The brand name and model number are located on the inside of the attic door.
