U.S. Solheim Cup captain Angela Stanford announced her three captain’s picks on Monday, emphasizing experience as the United States prepares to defend the trophy in the Netherlands. The selections include veteran Lindy Duncan, 35, who becomes the oldest debutant since 2000, and two seasoned competitors, Megan Khang and Rose Zhang.
Khang will compete in her fifth consecutive Solheim Cup, having been the top scorer for the United States at the 2023 event in Spain. She said, “Nothing can compare to the Solheim Cup … putting on the red, white and blue is such an honor.”
Rose Zhang, who will wear the red, white and blue for a third time, delivered one of the most dominant performances in Solheim Cup history in 2024, going 4‑0‑0 without a match reaching the 17th hole.
Duncan joins Auston Kim as the two rookies on the U.S. squad. She held the second qualifying spot via the world rankings for nearly two months before dropping out after The Standard Portland Classic. At 35, Duncan is the oldest member of the team and the oldest debutant since Nancy Scranton, who first played at age 39 in 2000.
The trio joins automatic qualifiers Nelly Korda, Angel Yin, Jennifer Kupcho, Yealimi Noh, Auston Kim, Lauren Coughlin, Allisen Corpuz, Andrea Lee and Alison Lee. The U.S. team will compete from September 11 to 13 at Bernardus Golf in the Netherlands, aiming to retain the Solheim Cup and secure their first away victory since 2015.
