Halloween week brought more than costumes and candy to Idaho residents. Between October 24 and October 28, two separate sightings of unidentified aerial phenomena (UAP) were reported to the National UFO Reporting Center (NUFORC) in Washington State.
First sighting near Ririe
On October 24, a lone witness traveling on Heise Road near Ririe – roughly 300 miles east of Boise – observed a large, light‑colored object moving at high speed. The witness described the craft as a single, bright object that appeared to be traveling faster than any conventional aircraft in the area. The incident was logged under report number 201970 and remains under investigation.
Second sighting over Boise
Four days later, on the night of October 28, another observer in the Boise area reported a different UAP. The craft was described as roughly 50 yards across and triangular in shape, with three distinct lights visible as it moved southeastward across the sky shortly after 8 p.m. This sighting was recorded as report number 20206.
Details and next steps
Both sightings involved single objects flying at altitudes of less than 1,200 feet, well below typical commercial flight paths. NUFORC has opened investigations into each report and is seeking additional information from anyone who may have witnessed the phenomena or captured photographs or video.
Residents who believe they saw either of the UAPs are encouraged to contact NUFORC directly to provide further details. The organization emphasizes the importance of corroborating reports to help determine whether the sightings represent atmospheric anomalies, experimental aircraft, or truly unexplained phenomena.
Local context
Idaho has a long history of reported aerial sightings, and the recent reports add to a growing catalog of unexplained observations in the Gem State. While some skeptics attribute such sightings to misidentified drones, weather balloons, or astronomical objects, the consistent altitude and flight characteristics reported by witnesses have kept the investigations open.
As the investigations continue, local authorities have not issued any safety advisories, and there have been no reports of damage or injuries associated with the sightings. The community remains curious, and the reports have sparked informal discussions on social media platforms throughout the region.
