Tuscaloosa Water Department Reports No PFAS and Zero Violations in 2025

Tuscaloosa residents can take comfort from the latest annual water quality report released by the City of Tuscaloosa. The 2026 report confirms that the municipal water system met every federal and Alabama state drinking‑water standard in 2025, recording zero violations and no detectable PFAS—commonly called “forever chemicals.”

Zero Violations, Zero PFAS

The report states that the city logged zero EPA or state violations for the entire year. In addition, laboratory testing found no PFAS compounds in any of the samples taken, indicating that the water supply is free of these persistent pollutants.

High Turbidity Compliance

Water clarity, measured by turbidity, is a key indicator of treatment effectiveness. Tuscaloosa Water achieved 99.97% compliance with the required turbidity standards, demonstrating that the treatment process consistently removes particles that could cloud the water.

Extensive Testing and Monitoring

Each year the department analyzes roughly 3,000 water samples, testing both before water reaches the treatment plant and after it enters the distribution network. In 2025 the system delivered approximately 8.06 billion gallons of water to homes and businesses, all monitored through this rigorous sampling program.

Infrastructure Improvements

Maintaining water quality also depends on a well‑maintained distribution system. Tuscaloosa’s network includes about 725 miles of water mains, which are regularly flushed through a hydrant‑flushing program to protect water quality. Recent capital projects include the rehabilitation of the Mercedes Tank, upgrades to the Clements Road Booster Pump Station, and improvements to the Ed Love Raw Water Pump Station.

How Residents Can Review the Data

The full 2026 Annual Water Quality Report is available to the public for review. Residents who want to see the detailed findings can download the report from the city’s website or contact Tuscaloosa Water directly at 205‑248‑5500.

Why This Matters

Clean, safe drinking water is a cornerstone of healthy families and strong communities. By meeting and exceeding all regulatory standards, Tuscaloosa demonstrates a commitment to protecting public health and upholding the constitutional right to safe water for every citizen.
