Tuscaloosa Kappa Alpha Psi Fraternity Hosts Blood Drive at Trinity United Methodist Church

The Tuscaloosa Alumni Chapter of Kappa Alpha Psi Fraternity, Inc. is joining forces with the American Red Cross and Trinity United Methodist Church to host a community‑wide blood drive. The event is scheduled for Wednesday, September 16, from 1 p.m. to 6 p.m. at Trinity United Methodist Church, located at 729 Paul W. Bryant Drive in Tuscaloosa, Alabama.

Why the Drive Matters

Blood banks across the nation continue to report shortages of all blood types, and Alabama is no exception. The Red Cross estimates that a single donation can save up to three lives, making each contribution a critical act of service for families facing surgery, trauma, or chronic illness. By providing a local venue, the partnership aims to make it easier for Tuscaloosa residents to give the gift of life.

Fraternity Leadership Calls for Participation

“Giving blood is one of the most selfless acts of service a person can perform,” said Anthony Hunter, Polemarch of the Tuscaloosa Alumni Chapter. “In our community, a single donation can mean the difference between life and death for someone in need. We are honored to partner with the Red Cross to provide this vital resource and encourage everyone who is able to join us in this mission of care and achievement.”

Hunter’s remarks underscore the fraternity’s long‑standing commitment to public service and the values of faith, family, and liberty that guide its members. The event also highlights the role of local churches as gathering places for charitable work, reinforcing the partnership between faith‑based institutions and civic organizations.

What Donors Can Expect

Donors will be welcomed by trained Red Cross professionals who will conduct a brief health screening, collect the blood, and provide refreshments afterward. Safety protocols, including sanitization stations and social distancing measures, will be in place to ensure a secure environment for all participants.

The drive welcomes donors of all blood types, with a particular emphasis on the continued need for O‑negative and AB‑positive units, which are often in short supply. Those interested in donating should arrive with a valid photo ID and be prepared to stay for approximately ten minutes.

How to Get Involved

Community members who are eligible to donate can sign up in advance through the American Red Cross website or by calling the local Red Cross chapter. Walk‑ins are also welcome, though pre‑registration helps reduce wait times.

In addition to donating blood, volunteers are needed to assist with registration, crowd control, and post‑donation refreshments. Fraternity members and church volunteers are already slated to help, and additional community support is encouraged.

Looking Ahead

The Tuscaloosa Kappa Alpha Psi chapter plans to make the blood drive an annual event, building on the success of previous collaborations with local nonprofits and faith groups. By fostering a culture of service, the fraternity hopes to inspire other organizations to address pressing health needs throughout the region.

For more information about the blood drive, including registration details and eligibility requirements, visit the American Red Cross website or contact Trinity United Methodist Church directly.
