President Donald Trump has endorsed Rep. Mike Collins in the Georgia Senate runoff, just days before the election. Collins, a conservative activist, will face Derek Dooley, a former football coach, in the runoff.
Trump’s Endorsement
Trump announced his endorsement of Collins on Truth Social, calling him a “true Friend, Fighter, and WARRIOR”. Collins has been a strong supporter of Trump and has appeared alongside administration officials at events in Georgia.
Dooley, on the other hand, has the support of Georgia Gov. Brian Kemp, who has had a complicated relationship with Trump. Despite Dooley’s efforts, Trump criticized his history of not voting in presidential elections and appeared to reference a report that Dooley privately acknowledged Trump’s loss in the 2020 election.
Runoff Election
The runoff election will determine which Republican candidate will face Democratic Sen. Jon Ossoff in November. Collins led Dooley by more than 10 points in the primary election, but the runoff is expected to be closely contested.
Collins thanked Trump for the endorsement and looked ahead to the general election. “Georgians deserve a U.S. Senator who will fight for them every day to deliver real results, and that’s exactly what I’m going to do. It starts with firing Jon Ossoff in November,” Collins wrote on X.
