Trinity Rocks Advance to State Final

Top-ranked Trinity is one win away from back-to-back state titles after beating Apollo 6-4 on Friday afternoon at Kentucky Proud Park in Lexington.

Game Highlights

The Rocks scored three times in the top of the first. Kentucky Mr. Baseball Grayson Willoughby drove in the first run with a double to the corner in left field. That scored Max Phillips. The next batter, Cade Partin, lifted a sacrifice fly to center. Nolan Hosking tagged and scored from third, Willoughby tagged and went to third, and then sprinted home when the Eagles had issues with the relay throw.

Trinity pitcher Konnor Stargel struck out eight Apollo batters in 6.1 innings of work. He improved to 10-0.

The Rocks added three more runs in the top of the fourth. Max Phillips, Gray Davis and Willoughby each drove in a run.

Trinity improves to 40-3 and the Rocks have won 23 straight. Apollo finishes 23-13.

The Rocks will face Boyd County (29-7) in the KHSAA State Championship game on Saturday at 3:30 p.m. at Kentucky Proud Park.
