TreesUpstate Plants Roots in Greenville

TreesUpstate, a local nonprofit, has been working to plant, promote, and protect trees in the Upstate region since 2005. With a team of 8 employees and 1,406 volunteers, they have made a significant impact on the community.

Mission and Impact

TreesUpstate’s mission is to plant, promote, and protect trees in parks, schools, and neighborhoods. They provide education and technical support to inform policies and systems change, ultimately expanding tree canopy, improving air and water quality, reducing urban heat, and enhancing quality of life.

Through community partnerships, education, and volunteer engagement, TreesUpstate is cultivating greener communities today while ensuring a thriving, equitable region for generations to come. Each tree planted is an investment in public health, environmental sustainability, and economic vitality.

Leadership and Events

TreesUpstate is led by a board of directors, including Linda Hannon, chair, and Allison Tucker, secretary. The organization engages with the community through hands-on and inspiring events, such as the annual Turkey Day Run, which brings thousands together in a beloved holiday tradition.

Corporate teams and civic groups can volunteer together while financially sponsoring tree-planting projects that build camaraderie and advance sustainability goals. TreesUpstate staff members are available to speak with businesses, civic groups, and organizations, building awareness, strengthening partnerships, and growing a healthier tree canopy across the region.

Volunteer Opportunities

Since 2005, more than 13,500 volunteers have joined TreesUpstate in their mission to enhance the region’s green spaces. The organization hosts community events from October to April, offering opportunities to participate in tree giveaways and tree plantings.

Volunteers can also participate in the annual Turkey Day Run, the largest race in the Upstate. All events are family-friendly, and TreesUpstate provides all the necessary tools for volunteers to get involved.

Giving Opportunities

TreesUpstate offers meaningful ways to invest in a healthier, more vibrant Upstate. Individual and corporate partners can sponsor tree plantings, support NeighborWoods projects in special-emphasis communities, and fund education that empowers residents to care for the urban forest.

Additionally, sponsorships are available for the annual Turkey Day Run. Tribute gifts, recurring donations, and legacy giving ensure lasting impact for generations. Every contribution helps expand tree canopy, improve environmental health, and strengthen neighborhoods.
