Greenville Women Giving (GWG) is a collective giving circle with membership open to all women, founded on the idea that informed women can make a significant difference in Greenville County by working together. An initiative of the Community Foundation of Greenville, GWG is predominantly a volunteer-led organization with multiple opportunities to participate in eight committees, hone leadership skills, expand professional and social networks, and build lasting friendships.
Mission and Impact
GWG identifies and funds nonprofit organizations in the areas of arts, education, environment, health, and human services in Greenville County, SC. Each year, 500 members contribute to a grant pool, receive a final ballot of nonprofit finalists whose applications have been thoroughly reviewed, and determine grantees by one woman/one vote.
The organization offers five education sessions throughout the year that are open to the public and address needs and services in their five focus areas for grants. Fundraising efforts include member contributions, sponsorships, and gifts that fund grant awards and operations. The GWG Endowment Fund ensures philanthropic engagement in perpetuity and the ability to support community needs that fall outside the traditional grant cycle.
Volunteer Opportunities and Giving
GWG is predominately a volunteer-driven and -led organization with multiple opportunities to be involved in 10 committees. Committee and social activities provide multiple opportunities for building leadership skills, professional and social networks, friendships, and fun. Every member commits $1,300 annually: $1,000 funds grant awards, and $300 supports operations and events. Individuals, corporations, and local businesses provide sponsorships, and additional gifts may be directed to the grant fund or to the GWG Endowment Fund, including bequests, honorariums, and memorials.
