Travis Club, a sprawling 1,500‑acre mixed‑use development on the southwest shore of Lake Travis near Spicewood, Texas, opened its private, members‑only golf course this Labor Day weekend. Designed by renowned architect Beau Welling—who also created Frisco’s Fields Ranch West and Florida’s Pelican Golf Club—the par‑71 layout showcases dramatic elevation changes, hilltop vistas and several holes that run along the lake’s shoreline.
Design and playability
Welling said the project began with “a fantastic canvas” and a supportive ownership group that allowed the team to craft a course that rewards smart decision‑making and creativity. While the layout presents challenges for skilled players, the design emphasizes playability for golfers of all levels. “We worked hard to make it remarkably playable and enjoyable for golfers of all levels,” Welling explained.
Amenities for members
The new course includes a practice facility featuring natural‑grass teeing areas, dedicated putting greens, professional instruction and two on‑course comfort stations. A full‑service Golf House is slated to open in spring 2027, bringing a pro shop, restaurant and bar, outdoor dining terrace, day lockers, training facilities and Trackman‑equipped hitting bays.
Broader development plans
Golf is just one component of the larger Travis Club “Club Campus,” which will also house a main clubhouse, fitness and wellness center, private marina, boat club, pools, playing fields and a variety of social spaces. The development boasts more than 10,000 feet of Lake Travis frontage, access to over 65 miles of open water, and more than 30 miles of private hiking and biking trails.
Residential component
Beyond recreation, Travis Club will feature nearly 700 custom homesites ranging from just under half an acre to over three acres each. To date, the development has sold over 190 homesites, with construction underway on almost 20 homes and more than 40 in design review. The first completed residences are expected to debut this fall.

Travis Club CEO Leisha Ehlert called the course opening “a defining moment” for the community. She praised Welling’s design, noting that the course feels “as though it has always belonged here, shaped by the land, connected to the lake and designed to be enjoyed for generations.” Ehlert added that member feedback exceeding expectations was the “greatest validation” the team could receive.
