Teton Village, Wyoming — Teton Gravity Research (TGR) will host the world premiere of its 31st annual ski film, Actually, It Is Rocket Science, on Saturday, Sept. 19, as part of the Far Out Fest celebration at Jackson Hole Mountain Resort.
Full‑day community celebration
The day‑long event brings together TGR athletes, filmmakers, local musicians and Jackson Hole residents for a series of activities that highlight both the sport and the region’s vibrant community spirit.
Festivities begin at 2 p.m. on the Village Commons with music and a festive atmosphere. From 3 p.m. to 4:30 p.m., fans can meet TGR athletes during a signing session while enjoying a performance by the local Chanman Roots Band.
Family‑friendly screening
At 5 p.m., the Murie Ballroom at Hotel Terra will host a special family‑friendly matinee of the new film. The screening offers a glimpse into the daring world of elite skiers as they treat each descent like a scientific experiment.
Live music and the world premiere
From 6 p.m. to 7:30 p.m., ROME – the musician formerly of Sublime with Rome – will perform live, setting the stage for the official premiere at 8 p.m. The film will be shown beneath the Jackson Hole Tram, with TGR athletes, filmmakers and community members in attendance.
Afterparty and local impact
Following the premiere, the celebration moves to the Mangy Moose for a 21+ afterparty. All net proceeds from Far Out Fest are being donated to local nonprofits, including the Coombs Foundation and the Bridger Avalanche Center, reinforcing TGR’s long‑standing commitment to the Jackson Hole community.
“Actually, It Is Rocket Science plays with the idea of what is and isn’t when it comes to skiing,” said TGR Lead Editor Johnny Seybold. “Some athletes lean into analytics and calculation, while others rely on feel and instinct. The film captures that balance and celebrates the collaborative effort behind every ski‑film production.”
Tour and future screenings
After the Jackson Hole debut, the film will join the 2026 TGR film tour, traveling to theaters, mountain resorts and outdoor venues across North America. Select stops will feature athlete appearances, Q&A sessions, giveaways and other local activations.
The event is supported by sponsors and partners such as Nissan, Sun Cruiser, Vuori, Norrøna, Obermeyer, Jay Peak, Atomic, Backcountry, Völkl, K2, Onewheel, Dakine and Bootcap.
