A commercial tractor-trailer carrying beer overturned early Monday morning in Salisbury, spilling its cargo onto the roadway and forcing Route 44 to close for several hours as crews worked to clear the scene, Connecticut State Police said.
Troopers responded to the crash at approximately 5:39 a.m. on Route 44 near Twin Lakes Road, according to state police. The tractor-trailer veered off the roadway and overturned, causing significant damage to the trailer and scattering what appeared to be Michelob Ultra and Bud Light onto the road, state police said.
Route 44 remained closed for several hours while crews conducted an extensive cleanup. The Connecticut Department of Energy and Environmental Protection (DEEP) said it was not notified of the crash. The lengthy closure was necessary to remove the large amount of debris and safely upright and tow away the heavily damaged truck and trailer, according to state police.
The cause of the crash remains under investigation. Anyone who witnessed the crash or has information is asked to contact Trooper DaSilva (#915) at 860-626-1820. No injuries were reported.
