Houston City College has reached its highest enrollment since 2019, with over 100,000 students. This achievement comes after HCC Chancellor Margaret Ford Fisher set a goal to restore enrollment following COVID-19 and build on student success.
Expansion of Opportunities
The increased enrollment is part of a larger plan to improve the quality and quantity of opportunities offered by HCC. Since 2022, the college’s student award attainment rate has increased by 30% and is on track to graduate a record number of students.
The HCC board of trustees approved three new applied bachelor’s programs, including information technology, project management, and early childhood education. Additionally, the college announced a memorandum of understanding with Space Center Houston to give students access to NASA-level science, hands-on STEM workshops, interactive astronaut presentations, and immersive aerospace projects.
HCC also received a $17 million investment from Bloomberg Philanthropies to launch Gulf Coast TradeUp Careers, a program aimed at providing free training in skilled trades and connecting students with paid apprenticeship opportunities.
