Texas Land Commissioner Launches ‘Texas Engine’ to Boost State Energy and Economy

Dallas – Texas Land Commissioner Dawn Buckingham (R) announced Monday a new statewide strategy called the “Texas Engine: Fueled, Fed, and Fortified.” The plan is designed to showcase how Texas’ land, energy and natural resources can power economic growth, create jobs for families, and reinforce America’s energy security.

Five pillars for a stronger Texas

The initiative groups its goals into five interconnected pillars:

  • Energy – Texas will continue to supply dependable, dispatchable power from oil, natural gas, geothermal and nuclear sources. Buckingham emphasized that reliable energy is the foundation for families, businesses and the broader economy.
  • Natural resources – Development of critical minerals and produced water will reduce reliance on foreign sources and bolster U.S. resource security.
  • Manufacturing – The state’s abundant energy, raw materials, skilled workforce and infrastructure position Texas to attract the next generation of American manufacturing.
  • Agriculture – Protecting working lands and conserving water will preserve Texas’ farming and ranching legacy while feeding both the state and the nation.
  • Conservation – Responsible development of land, water, coastline and other natural assets will ensure they remain viable for future generations.

Buckingham, a ninth‑generation Texan, said the effort reflects her duty to keep the General Land Office’s resources working for Texas families, veterans and communities. “American strength requires energy, land, natural resources, workers, farmers and leaders with the determination and grit to protect them – Texas can provide that strength,” she told a video audience.

Local impact and national relevance

The Texas Engine is intended to be a living showcase. Over the coming months, the General Land Office will announce specific projects tied to each pillar, highlighting opportunities for job creation, investment and community development across the state.

Earlier this year, Buckingham supported a federal offshore oil and gas lease sale in the Gulf of America, arguing that expanded production would bolster the U.S. economy and national security. The new initiative builds on that stance, positioning Texas as a key contributor to the nation’s energy independence.

What it means for Texans

For families and local businesses, the plan promises more stable energy prices, new manufacturing jobs, and continued access to high‑quality agricultural products. Conservation measures aim to protect the very lands that support farming, ranching and outdoor recreation, ensuring they remain viable for future generations.

“Over the next several months, we’re going to show you the people, places, and resources that make Texas the engine that keeps America moving,” Buckingham said. The General Land Office will use its website and social‑media channels to roll out project details, success stories and opportunities for community involvement.

Looking ahead

While the initiative is still in its early stages, its emphasis on energy security, domestic resource development and job‑creating manufacturing aligns with the Trump administration’s broader goals of strengthening American industry and reducing dependence on foreign imports. Texas officials hope the Texas Engine will serve as a model for other states seeking to leverage their natural assets for long‑term prosperity.
