Donate Your Gently Used Items to Indianapolis Nonprofits Supporting Families and Neighbors

When you finally tackle that overflowing closet or the garage full of unused items, Indianapolis provides a wealth of community‑focused nonprofits ready to turn your pre‑loved goods into help for local families, veterans, survivors of domestic violence and even pets in need.

The Little Timmy Project

Located inside Cornerstone Lutheran Church at 2837 E. New York St., The Little Timmy Project supports pregnant people and new parents during the first year of a baby’s life. They accept formula, car seats, diapers, wipes, bottles, baby wash and pack‑and‑plays. Drop‑offs are accepted Wednesdays from 12:30 p.m. to 2:30 p.m. New clients can schedule an appointment; returning clients may shop on Saturdays.

Lambswear

Lambswear is a free clothing store for children of all ages, from pre‑emies to teenagers. They welcome clothes, coats, socks, underwear and shoes. Donation hours are Tuesdays 5‑7 p.m., Fridays 10 a.m.–1 p.m. and Sundays 1‑3 p.m. at 5841 Thunderbird Road, Suite D.

Thrifty Threads (Julian Center)

Thrifty Threads operates free thrift stores for clients of the Julian Center, a shelter for survivors of domestic violence. They accept clothing, kids’ books, furniture and toys. Drop‑offs are welcome Monday‑Saturday, 10 a.m.–5 p.m., at either 8424 Castleton Corner Drive or 1501 W. 86th St.

FIDO Indy

FIDO Indy runs a pet‑food pantry for low‑income dog and cat owners. Donate dry pet food, collars, leashes or plastic dog homes. Drop‑offs go into the blue bins outside Indy Humane at 7929 N. Michigan Road, any time. Indy Humane staff sort the donations daily and also accept online wish‑list purchases for the Pet Resource Center.

Indy Milk Bank

Breastfeeding parents can donate excess milk to other mothers and to infants in neonatal intensive care units. After completing an application, a screening and a blood draw (paid for by the Milk Bank), your milk will be pasteurized and distributed to families in need.

Indy Reads

Indy Reads collects new and gently used books every first Friday of the month, 11 a.m.–7 p.m., at 1066 Virginia Ave. Parking is on Shelby Street; ring the doorbell for assistance. Larger donations (more than three boxes) can be arranged by emailing [email protected]. Proceeds from book sales fund free English classes and job‑training programs.

Indianapolis Public Library

The library accepts used books at any branch. Two boxes or fewer can be dropped off locally; larger donations (four boxes) should be taken to the Library Services Center at 2450 N. Meridian St. Call the Indy Library Store at 317‑275‑4044 to schedule a pickup.

FAME

FAME, a Christian organization, gathers medical supplies for mission trips abroad. Drop off wheelchairs, prosthetics, bandages or hospital beds at 4545 Southeastern Ave., Monday‑Friday, 8:30 a.m.–5 p.m.

Lions Club Eyeglass Drive

Used eyeglasses left at most Walmart optician counters are collected by the Lions Club and redistributed to those in need. Local Lions Club locations also accept direct drop‑offs.

Freewheelin’ Community Bikes – Green Apron Program

The Green Apron program teaches kids how to ride and repair bicycles, then provides a free bike sourced from donations. Donate bicycles, tools or parts on scheduled donation days listed on their online calendar. The shop is at 3355 Central Ave.

Dress for Success Indianapolis

Dress for Success supplies interview‑ready clothing to women seeking employment. Bring donations to 820 N. Meridian St., Wednesdays 9:30 a.m.–1 p.m., and use the garage door entrance.

In Pursuit Of

In Pursuit Of provides suits and professional attire to men who are veterans, unhoused or formerly incarcerated. Schedule a pickup by completing their online form.

Fletcher Place Community Center

The center’s thrift store offers free clothing and hygiene items to people experiencing homelessness. Drop off donations at 1637 Prospect St. after checking their current list of needs.

St. Vincent de Paul

St. Vincent de Paul accepts furniture, household goods and even cars. Smaller items can be left in blue bins around the city, larger items at the distribution center, 1201 Maryland St., or arranged for pickup by calling 800‑322‑8284.

Habitat for Humanity ReStore

Donate furniture, lighting, appliances, tools and more to Habitat’s ReStore. Items are sold to fund the construction of affordable homes for low‑income families. Call 317‑969‑8791 to schedule a pickup or drop off Tuesday‑Saturday, 10 a.m.–7 p.m., at 4129 W. Washington St.

These Indianapolis nonprofits rely on community generosity to keep vital services running. By donating responsibly, you help neighbors, strengthen families and uphold the Christian principle of caring for those in need.
