A shooting occurred at Hockinson Meadows Community Park in the early hours of Saturday, August 15. Clark County Sheriff’s Office deputies were dispatched to the scene, where they found an 18-year-old male with a single gunshot wound to the chest. The victim was pronounced dead at the scene.
According to the initial investigation, a large group of people, mostly in their late teens, had gathered at the park. Witnesses reported that a semi-automatic rifle discharged while it was in the hands of 18-year-old James Gill, an acquaintance of the deceased. A Glock 17 semi-automatic rifle was recovered from the scene.
James Gill was booked into the Clark County Jail on a charge of second-degree manslaughter. The identification of the deceased, as well as the cause and manner of death, may be requested through the Clark County Medical Examiner’s Office.
