A 16-year-old girl died after falling nearly 30 feet through the roof of an abandoned four-story building in Sebastian, according to the Indian River County Sheriff’s Office. Investigators say the teens were trespassing on the property and that evidence indicates the deadly fall was accidental.
Deputies and Indian River County Fire Rescue personnel responded to the scene at approximately 10:35 p.m. on Aug. 8, 2026, after a 911 caller reported that a teenage girl had fallen from a concrete structure and suffered critical injuries.
When first responders arrived, they found a group of juveniles and the injured teen on the second floor of the abandoned building. A juvenile who was with the group immediately began performing CPR before emergency crews arrived.
The teen was airlifted to Holmes Regional Medical Center in Melbourne, where she later died from her injuries. Detectives with the Indian River County Sheriff’s Office Criminal Investigations Division are continuing to investigate the incident.
The sheriff’s office extended its condolences to the girl’s family and urged the public to recognize the dangers associated with abandoned structures.
