Rain has turned the grass parking lots at the Iowa State Fair into muddy challenges, with some areas becoming unusable and cars getting stuck.
According to Jeremy Parsons, CEO of the Iowa State Fair, the fairgrounds can accommodate about 3,000 to 5,000 cars at a time, but the rain has made the situation increasingly messy. Even a KCCI vehicle got stuck and required a tow.
Parking Alternatives
Fairgoers are encouraged to use alternative parking options to avoid the muddy conditions. Parsons suggested parking downtown on hard surfaces and taking a DART bus into the fair or parking on hard surfaces at Southridge Mall and riding the free shuttle.
Despite the weather challenges, the fair continues to offer activities for visitors. Parsons noted that there’s always something to do on a rainy day at the Iowa State Fair.
