A teenager has been arrested in connection to a purse snatching that happened outside of a grocery store in East Haven on Saturday. The incident occurred at the ShopRite plaza around 2:15 p.m. when a woman was assaulted during the theft of her purse, suffering minor injuries after being knocked to the ground and dragged.
Witnesses provided a description of the suspect and the getaway vehicle, which was identified as a Kia Sportage that had been reported stolen earlier that day in North Haven. East Haven police worked with New Haven and West Haven police to locate the vehicle, finding it abandoned on Elm Street in West Haven. A K9 track led officers to the front door of the suspect’s home.
The suspect, a 13-year-old from West Haven, was taken into custody and is facing charges including robbery, assault, larceny of a motor vehicle, and larceny. The teen was transported to the Bridgeport Juvenile Detention Center, where he is being held pending his next court appearance.
The investigation is ongoing as detectives work to determine whether the teen or others may be connected to additional incidents.
