Nikita Kucherov, right winger for the Tampa Bay Lightning, has been awarded the Hart Memorial Trophy as the NHL Most Valuable Player. Kucherov received 72 first-place votes to secure his second Hart Memorial Trophy.
A Decorated Career
Kucherov’s trophy case has grown, adding to his already decorated career. He expressed his gratitude, stating that having success with the same organization that drafted him makes it even more special. In the 2025/2026 season, Kucherov scored 44 goals and 13 points for the team, with eight of these goals coming at crucial game-deciding moments.
In April, a thrilling finish to the matchup between the Detroit Red Wings and the Tampa Bay Lightning showcased Kucherov’s skills. With four minutes left in overtime, Brayden Point made a last-second pass to Kucherov, who tapped the puck into the net for the winning goal. This is not his first time in the spotlight, as he won his first Hart Memorial Trophy in 2019 and has been a finalist every year since 2023.
Team Success
Kucherov also played a huge role in his teammates’ success, boasting 86 assists and helping the Lightning reach the playoffs 12 times since 2018. According to Lightning head coach Jon Cooper, one of Kucherov’s greatest strengths is that he is never satisfied and always strives for more. Cooper also noted that Kucherov would trade his individual award for a Stanley Cup win anytime, demonstrating his commitment to the team.
