Bim Eriksson, an artist from Stockholm, Sweden, concluded her residency at Ucross with a heartfelt farewell event at The Warehouse Gastropub in Sheridan on May 27. The gathering celebrated Eriksson’s contributions to the local community and the artistic exchange fostered by her fellowship.
Ucross Fellowship and Local Integration
Eriksson’s residency was made possible through the EU’s Transatlantic Rising Stars initiative, which aims to enhance collaboration between European and American artists. Caitlin Addlesperger, Ucross President and Executive Director, introduced Eriksson at the event, expressing gratitude to Christer and Gina Johansson for hosting the gathering at their restaurant.
Addlesperger highlighted Ucross’s partnerships with organizations such as the Sundance Film Festival and the University of Wyoming, which contribute to the vibrant artistic environment that welcomed Eriksson. Over the past weeks, Eriksson integrated into the Northern Wyoming community, sharing her artistic journey and experiences.
Eriksson’s Artistic Journey
During her speech, Eriksson recounted her path to becoming an artist and the process of being awarded the Ucross Fellowship. She shared a personal story about the anticipation she felt waiting for the fellowship decision, which finally arrived in January, confirming her as one of the ten finalists. Eriksson expressed a sense of destiny when she learned she would be joining Ucross.
Her recent work includes a graphic novel featuring a cowgirl, a fitting coincidence given her residency in Wyoming. Eriksson also collaborated on an art project with Wyoming Poet David Romvedt, further enriching her experience and connection with the local culture.
A Warm Farewell
The farewell event featured a Swedish-inspired menu curated by Head Chef Jeff Armstrong and Owner Christer Johansson, who hails from Trollhättan, Sweden. Johansson expressed his pride in welcoming a fellow Swede to Sheridan and sharing Swedish culture with the community. He led a farewell toast and shared a Swedish drinking song, encouraging the crowd to join in the celebration.
The event drew a large crowd to the patio of The Warehouse Gastropub, where attendees enjoyed the cultural exchange and bid farewell to Eriksson, marking the end of her impactful residency in Sheridan.
