Louisville Nature Center Plans ‘Living Building’

The Louisville Nature Center is planning to renovate its facility to become a ‘living building’, a self-sufficient and regenerative structure that meets the sustainability requirements outlined by Living Future in its living building challenge.

Sustainability Goals

To receive the certification as a living building, the project must follow all 20 criteria outlined by Living Future. Executive director of Louisville Nature Center Rebecca Minnick said building something that qualifies as a living building is a rigorous process.

‘It’s a very lofty goal, but we feel that it is our mission to show the world not just what’s possible in terms of sustainability, but what’s absolutely necessary as we move forward in this world of rapid climate change,’ Minnick said.

The project is currently in the planning stages. On Wednesday, Congressman Morgan McGarvey toured the center and plans for the new facility were shared with him. The Louisville Nature Center is currently raising money for the new facility.
