A stolen Pablo Picasso etching print, valued between $35,000 and $50,000, has been recovered in a vacant apartment in Milwaukee. The etching, titled ‘Torero,’ was stolen from DeLind Fine Art Appraisals in 2018.
Recovery of the Etching
Milwaukee landlord Tim Dertz found the etching while cleaning out the apartment of an evicted tenant. Dertz showed the etching to an antique dealer, who recognized it as the stolen Picasso. The etching was then handed over to the police, who contacted the owner, Bill DeLind.
DeLind immediately recognized the etching, which still had his company’s sticker on the back. The recovery of the etching has brought closure to DeLind, who had given up hope of ever seeing it again.
