Rocky Neck State Park’s west beach and Wadsworth Fields State Park have been closed following testing by the Department of Energy and Environmental Protection (DEEP). DEEP performs weekly tests of various beaches and swimming areas in state parks for the presence of certain indicator bacteria.
While indicator bacteria are not disease-causing pathogens, public health and environmental authorities say they are used to evaluate whether certain waterbodies are contaminated. When a beach or swimming area is closed, retests are scheduled within the next day for whenever possible, according to Connecticut’s official state park site.
Authorities have not yet said when a retest will be rescheduled or when these two closures will be lifted.
