Three groundbreaking ceremonies will take place in the coming days to mark the start of construction for the final projects in the $220 million bond package approved by voters in 2023. The projects include renovations and new buildings for Bissett, Pershing, and Bingham schools in Springfield, Missouri.
Project Details
Pershing Middle School will receive a completely new building, with the old school being demolished to make way for a track and practice field. The new school will have approximately 48 classrooms, an updated library, gym, and rehearsal spaces for choir and band programs, as well as modern security features. The project is expected to be completed before the original projection of 2028.
Bissett Elementary School’s project includes new classrooms and a renovation, with about 22,000 square feet of new space being added for four classrooms and a storm shelter-gymnasium. Approximately 33,000 square feet of space will be renovated and modernized. Students will attend the old Sherwood Elementary School during the 2026-27 school year.
Bingham Elementary School’s plan calls for a completely new school, with Nabholz Construction chosen as the construction manager. The new building will be approximately 65,000 square feet. Demolition of the old school is scheduled to begin this week, and the groundbreaking will take place once the site is suitable for construction.
