UEFA, CONCACAF, and the AFC have accused FIFA president Gianni Infantino of a “fundamental breach of trust” over his recent plans to sell an interest in the World Cup. Soccer Leaders Unite Against FIFA
The letter, co-signed by UEFA president Aleksander Čeferin, AFC president Salman Bin Ibrahim Al-Khalifa, CONCACAF president Victor Montagliani, and three general secretaries, emphasized that football belongs to the players, fans, clubs, member associations, and institutions entrusted with safeguarding its future. The soccer leaders called for unity and leadership that serves football, not seeks to command it.
Norway’s soccer federation has called for Infantino to step down, while the English Football Association has withdrawn its support for his re-election next March. FIFA has apologized for errors made over the failed plan, but the soccer leaders are urging the organization to go further and recognize the breach of trust.
