The Hamilton County Auditor’s Office is warning property owners of fake videos and articles referencing a federal property tax freeze. According to the auditor’s office, there is an entirely AI-generated video circulating online asking older homeowners to contact their county auditor for a “Federal Senior Homeowner Tax Review Request” form.
What Homeowners Need to Know
“I have heard from my colleagues across the state that they too are receiving an influx of calls,” said Hamilton County Auditor Jessica E. Miranda in a press release. “My team and I are at-the-ready to look into your tax relief eligibility, but this form does not exist, and the video is entirely false. Please continue to report the video as misinformation.”
Miranda’s office says that County Auditors administer tax relief programs as instructed by the state. The only relief program that provides targeted relief to older Ohioans, according to Miranda’s office, is the Homestead Exemption, which is available on their primary residence to homeowners at least 65 years of age and have a gross income of less than $41,000, excluding social security.
Miranda’s office says the best place to receive consistent and accurate information about new legislation, existing property tax relief programs and important deadlines is via the auditor’s website and social media pages.
