Shreveport Summer Music Festival Celebrates 50th Anniversary

The Shreveport Summer Music Festival is celebrating its 50th anniversary with a special opening concert honoring American music and America’s 250th birthday. The performance will take place on Flag Day, Sunday, at 3 p.m. at Holy Cross Episcopal Church in downtown Shreveport.

Celebrating American Music

According to artistic Director Kermit Poling, this event is an important part of reminding us who we are, highlighting the role music plays in reflecting the nation’s cultural history. The free concert will feature works by American composers including Charles Ives, Philip Glass, and Samuel Barber, along with a world premiere by Poling and a performance by internationally recognized violinist Kinga Augustyn.
