A voluntary boil advisory has been issued for portions of the Cherokee Park area in Shreveport, Louisiana, following a water main break that caused a loss of water pressure and temporary outages. The City of Shreveport Department of Water and Sewerage has completed repairs to the damaged water main, but the advisory remains in place while workers conduct required water quality testing.
Affected Areas
The advisory affects residents and businesses in the following areas: Mayfair, Arncliffe, Crestmoor, Dunbriar, Englemeade, East and West Algonquin, Fenwick, Graystone, Heatherwood, Inverness, 900–1100 blocks of Wells Island Road, 1500 block of Airport Drive, Brookbriar, Braebrook, and Baythorne.
According to Brandon R. Snead, Interim Water and Sewerage Director, ‘Protecting public health is our highest priority.’ Snead stated that crews worked quickly to complete repairs to the damaged water main and restore service to the affected area. The advisory was issued out of an abundance of caution due to the scale of the break.
Customers in the affected areas should bring all water used for drinking, cooking, brushing teeth, making ice, or food preparation to a rolling boil for at least one full minute before use. Bottled water is also a safe alternative.
The advisory will remain in effect until water samples are collected, analyzed, and reviewed by the Louisiana Department of Health. The city will notify the public through official channels once the state confirms the water meets all drinking standards.
