A local organization in Boca Raton, Kinkatopia, is dedicated to rescuing and educating the public about kinkajous. These tree-dwelling critters, native to Central and South America, have become a part of the exotic pet trade due to their golden fur and big personalities.

Kinkatopia’s Mission

Kinkatopia, a non-profit organization, takes in unwanted kinkajous and provides them with a permanent home. The organization has helped over 100 kinkajous since 2018 and currently has 29 in their care. Alexandra Ashe, CEO and Founder of Kinkatopia, explained that the organization also educates the public about the realities of living with these wild animals.

Through social media, Kinkatopia shows the other side of having kinkajous as pets, advising people that they are wild animals and not pets. The organization plans to open its doors to the public to educate folks about these critters, in hopes of keeping kinkajous where they belong – in the wild.
