Shreveport families are rallying behind the KTBS 3 St. Jude Dream Home Giveaway as the September 22 drawing approaches. With fewer than 2,000 tickets remaining, the annual fundraiser offers a chance to win a new home valued at over $715,000, but its true purpose is to support children and families confronting cancer and other life‑threatening illnesses.
Local family’s story puts a human face on the cause
Two‑year‑old Hutton Montgomery was diagnosed with leukemia on July 31, 2025, after a routine check‑up for his 13‑month‑old sister. Within hours, Hutton was admitted to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital in Memphis, where he began intensive treatment. “It’s been nothing short of amazing,” said his father, Robert Montgomery. “God has been very gracious to us from the smallest details to the big decisions. He has gone before us and behind us and set everything the way it’s supposed to be.”
The Montgomerys praised St. Jude’s affiliate clinic in Shreveport, noting that it allows Hutton to spend nights at home and maintain a familiar routine during his therapy. “St. Jude’s has literally thought of anything and everything, and we’re thankful that Shreveport has an affiliate clinic,” Robert added.
Faith and gratitude guide the family
Grandfather Jerry Montgomery described the diagnosis as one of the hardest challenges his family has faced, yet he emphasized God’s faithfulness throughout the journey. “I really believe He has allowed this to happen so He might draw us closer to Himself,” he said, adding that they have witnessed what they consider miracles during Hutton’s treatment.
Robert Montgomery highlighted the financial relief St. Jude provides: “St. Jude’s patients never receive a bill. They receive, in my opinion, the best cancer treatment in the world. The research is first class; the doctors are first class.” He also noted that several former St. Jude patients now work at local Chevyland, underscoring the long‑term impact of the organization’s support.
How the Dream Home Giveaway supports St. Jude
Each $100 ticket sold for the Dream Home Giveaway directly funds St. Jude’s mission to provide treatment, travel, housing and meals at no cost to families. The home, built by Rodgers Homes & Construction, is just one of many prizes that motivate community members to contribute.
Jan Elkins, KTBS 3 Community Projects Director who has overseen the campaign for more than 35 years, said the fundraiser’s impact is evident in stories like the Montgomerys’. “When families see the difference St. Jude makes in their lives, they understand why every ticket matters,” Elkins explained.
Call to action
Organizers encourage Shreveport residents to purchase tickets while supplies last, emphasizing that every purchase not only offers a chance to win a new home but also helps children like Hutton receive life‑saving care. Tickets remain available through local retailers and online until the drawing on September 22.
