Sheridan Fire and Rescue is reminding residents of the importance of working smoke detectors in their homes. According to the National Fire Prevention Association, smoke alarms were present in three-quarters of reported home fires from 2018 to 2022. Nearly three out of five home fire deaths were caused by fires in properties with no smoke alarms or smoke alarms that failed to operate.
Assistance Available
The fire department will assist residents who are unable to change their smoke detector batteries. They also have a program to help outfit homes with smoke detectors for those who do not have them or cannot afford them. Residents can contact the fire station for more information.
