Settlers kill Palestinian teen in West Bank; Turkey seeks warrant for Netanyahu

On Friday, a 17‑year‑old Palestinian named Karim Sanad Raja Shalaldeh was killed and another man wounded after Israeli settlers opened fire in Sa’ir, a village north of Hebron in the occupied West Bank. The Palestinian Health Ministry confirmed the teenager’s death and reported that his father told reporters the killing occurred after rocks were thrown at Israeli civilians.

The Israeli military said soldiers were dispatched to the area after Palestinians threw rocks at Israelis who were present without prior authorization. An Israeli security official opened fire, resulting in the teenager’s death. In a separate incident, 58‑year‑old Fathi Khazem was fatally shot by Israeli forces in Jenin during an overnight operation, according to the Palestinian General Authority for Civil Affairs. Israeli officials claim Khazem attempted to stab a soldier, though no Israeli troops were injured.

Escalating settler violence

A human‑rights organization that monitors violations against Palestinians, Yesh Din, released a report titled “The Next Frontier,” warning that settler attacks are moving from rural West Bank areas into larger Palestinian towns and cities. The report links the rise in violence to recent Israeli government approvals of new settlements and outposts, many of which remain unauthorized yet are left in place.

Palestinian officials say at least 87 Palestinians have been killed in roughly 1,500 attacks by Israeli settlers and soldiers this year. Approximately 3 million Palestinians live under Israeli military rule in the West Bank alongside about 560,000 Israeli settlers.

Turkey seeks international arrest warrant for Netanyahu

Turkey announced it is requesting an Interpol red notice for Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and another Israeli national. The request stems from a Turkish court case trying 35 defendants in absentia for alleged genocide, crimes against humanity, torture, unlawful detention and hijacking related to Israel’s interception of a flotilla attempting to break the Gaza naval blockade in May.

The flotilla departed from the Turkish port of Marmaris and was intercepted in international waters off Cyprus. Turkish Justice Minister Akin Gürlek said the charges arise from the Israeli navy’s actions and reports of mistreatment of detained activists.

Netanyahu responded on social media, calling Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan an “antisemitic dictator” who has “massacred Kurds, harbors Hamas terrorists, occupies half of Cyprus, and jails record numbers of journalists and politicians who oppose him.” He added that Erdogan’s attempt to intimidate Israel, “the only true democracy in the Middle East,” would fail.

Regional fallout

Foreign ministers from eleven countries, including Turkey, Algeria, Indonesia, Jordan, Lebanon, Malaysia, Mauritania, Pakistan, Qatar, Saudi Arabia, Somalia and the Palestinian territories, issued a joint statement condemning Israel’s airstrikes on a Syrian air base. The strikes, which hit the Abu Duhur base, caused damage but no casualties. Israel said the attack was aimed at preventing Syria from breaching a security “status‑quo” by allowing Turkish troops to deploy there.

The World Bank warned that Lebanon’s economy is projected to contract 6.4 percent this year after the Israel‑Hezbollah war reversed the country’s prior economic recovery. Inflation is expected to rise sharply due to supply disruptions, higher shipping costs and rising oil prices.

These developments underscore a widening regional tension, with increased settler violence in the West Bank, diplomatic confrontations over the Gaza flotilla, and broader geopolitical disputes involving Syria and Lebanon.
