Semitrailer overturns on San Fernando Road, knocks out power in Pacoima

Early Thursday morning, a semitrailer truck lost control and tipped onto its side on the San Fernando Road corridor in the Pacoima neighborhood of Los Angeles. The accident caused several utility poles to collapse, taking down overhead power lines that left nearby homes and businesses without electricity.

What happened

Witnesses reported hearing a loud crash just after 9 a.m. near the intersection of Branford Street and San Fernando Road. The driver of the 18-wheeler was able to exit the vehicle without serious injury, and no other motorists were hurt. Emergency responders from the Los Angeles Police Department and fire services arrived quickly to secure the scene and direct traffic.

Impact on the community

With the utility poles down, Southern California Edison crews were dispatched to assess the damage and begin repairs. The power outage affected a block of residential homes and several small businesses along San Fernando Road. Residents reported loss of lighting, refrigeration, and internet service, prompting many to seek temporary power solutions.

The intersection remained closed to vehicular traffic while crews worked to clear debris and restore the roadway. Detour signs directed drivers to nearby alternate routes, and the Los Angeles Department of Transportation posted updates on its website and social‑media channels.

Response and next steps

Utility workers began restoring power lines within a few hours of the crash. Officials said that most customers should see service restored by late afternoon, though some may experience brief interruptions as the system is fully re‑energized.

City officials reminded motorists to exercise caution when traveling through construction zones and to obey posted detour signs. The Los Angeles Police Department is investigating the cause of the truck’s loss of control, but no foul play is suspected at this time.

Community resources

Residents without power were encouraged to check with local shelters and community centers for temporary heating and charging stations. Southern California Edison provided a hotline for outage reports and updates.

Authorities will continue to monitor the situation and will issue further notices if additional road closures or utility work are required.
