A report from the U.S. Department of Homeland Security’s Office of Inspector General found that the Secret Service missed 102 urgent messages about an active shooter before a shooting at a Donald Trump rally in Butler, Pennsylvania, on July 13, 2024.
Details of the Incident
The shooting resulted in the death of rallygoer Corey Comperatore and injured two other attendees, including Trump, who was grazed by a bullet. The report stated that the Secret Service only received five phone calls and three text messages about the shooter, who was later identified as Thomas Crooks.
The report also noted that the Secret Service did not establish a joint communications room with representatives from all law enforcement agencies, which could have prevented harm or injury to the then-presidential candidate and rally attendees.
