Schertz police are intensifying their investigation into an attempted kidnapping that occurred Saturday afternoon in the Belmont Park subdivision. The incident, reported around 8:30 p.m., took place between 4:30 p.m. and 5:30 p.m. at a neighborhood park near Belmont Parkway and Hourless Oaks Lane.
What happened
According to a statement posted on the department’s Facebook page, a 9‑year‑old girl was walking through the park when an unknown man grabbed her by the arm. The child managed to break free, and the suspect fled the scene without speaking.
The victim was understandably shaken and could only provide a vague description. Police have released the limited details they have: the suspect is believed to be between 30 and 40 years old, has dark hair, and was wearing a blue top and jeans.
Neighborhood response
Local residents expressed outrage and concern. Barbara Dolberry, who lives near the park, said, “That’s bold. They’re bold, and hopefully they didn’t go somewhere else to try it with some other kid. It makes me angry because kids can’t even walk down the street without somebody messing with them.” Dolberry, whose own children are grown, added that she worries for her grandchildren and other children in the area.
Several other neighbors, speaking to KSAT 12 News on Monday morning, echoed similar fears and called for increased vigilance and better lighting in the park.
